Multidetector CT Findings of Retroarterial Reversed Intestinal Rotation in an Adult: A Case Report
نویسنده
چکیده
mon intestinal developmental anomalies, and accounts for 4% of all malrotation cases (1). In 1923, Dott et al. (2) proposed that in reversed rotation, the normal 270 counterclockwise rotation is replaced by a 90 counterclockwise rotation followed by a 180 clockwise rotation, resulting in a net 90 clockwise rotation. Intestinal malrotation is usually diagnosed during infancy and childhood as a result of acute symptoms induced by complications including intestinal obstruction or volvulus. Adults with rotational anomalies are asymptomatic and are usually founded incidentally during an imaging evaluation or laparotomy for coincidental disease (3). Only a few cases of reversed intestinal rotation have been reported in surgical and internal medicine literatures. To the best of our knowledge, there are no reports of MDCT findings concerning reversed intestinal rotation (4-6). We report a case of reversed rotation in a 38year-old man, focusing on the first MDCT findings alongside a literature review.

Absract Intestinal malrotation is a general term used for any deviation from normal embryonic GI tract rotations. This abnormality, denotes a spectrum of conditions (non rotation, incomplete rotation) that according to the severity of anatomic consequence, can result in complications found in infancy, childhood, adolescence, adulthood or old age. متن کاملSmall Bowel Volvulus Induced by Mesenteric Lymphangioma in an Adult: a Case Report
Mesenteric lymphangiomas are rare abdominal masses that are seldom associated with small bowel volvulus, and especially in adult patients. We report here on an unusual case of small bowel volvulus that was induced by a mesenteric lymphangioma in a 43-year-old man who suffered from repeated bouts of abdominal pain. At multidetector CT, we noticed whirling of the cystic mesenteric mass and the ad...
متن کاملSurgical and Endoscopic Treatment of a Double Phytobezoar Causing Ileus and Jaundice: A Case Report
Bezoars are rare conditions of mechanical intestinal occlusion. Among the various types of bezoars, phytobezoars and trichobezoars are the most common types. Symptoms are usually indistinguishable from other more common entities; therefore, it may be difficult to reach a correct diagnosis. Computed tomography (CT) scan is the preferred diagnostic method. Treatment may include surgery, lavage wi...
متن کاملAssessment of dose reduction and influence of gantry rotation time in CT abdomen examinations
Background: Worldwide the computed tomography (CT) scanning is recognized as a high radiation dose modality. This article aimed to estimate the radiation dose reduction and radiogenic risks for adult patients undertaking abdominal CT examinations. Materials and Methods: A total of 128 patients were studied using 2, 4, 16 and 64 slice CT scanners. The patients were divided into two categories: t...
متن کاملIleocaecal Intussusception with a Lead Point: Unusual MDCT Findings of Active Crohn's Disease Involving the Appendix
Adult intussusception is a rare entity accounting for 1% of all bowel obstructions. Unlike intussusceptions in children, which are idiopathic in 90% of cases, adult intussusceptions have an identifiable cause (lead point) in the majority of cases. Crohn's disease (CD) may affect any part of the gastrointestinal tract, including the appendix. It was shown to be a predisposing factor for intussus...
